Hey PW, Suck on This!

Publisher's Weekly recently came out with a list of the Best Books of 2009 and not a single woman author is on it. It's not that women aren't writing. It's not that women aren't writing anything of merit. It's that women's voices are continuing to be silenced; that our experience continues to go unrecognized.

Well.

I've been reading PLENTY of books written by women in 2009 - that's me on the side balancing all the ones I could find in my apartment published in the past year on top of my head (and that doesn't include the numerous amount of female-authored books I've gotten from the library, or loaned to friends and colleagues, because I believe in sharing the good). Some of them I've even blogged about here. And of course you can always check the sidebar for my feminist-leaning Goodreads bookshelf, and see what we're reading in the online feminist book club, Radical Readers & Feminisms for Dummies.

Not even including a single woman sends a clear message - that men still rule the media, and have the power to affect how the world is viewed: through a male lens. This is precisely why we need networks like SheWrites, a space where women writers can come together in mutual support (I highly suggest you join, and then, friend me!).

Make your voice heard - What books by women have YOU enjoyed reading in the past year?
